Looks like you guys need a full lesson on creative budgeting. Write checks for everything. Woodedge is the company you order your seasoned wood from. Then you chop down your own tree and stack your own wood. I have extra trees and my own chainsaw and splitter. Briarwood is the new company you get your wood from. They are cheaper and you are Saving money. Hopefully the tree you chopped down was big and the auditor won't even notice that you don't get more wood. To pay board, go ahead and write BCF. Then if the auditor complains, blab about how you don't have your hair or nails done, don't belong to a gym, don't have a shoe fetish. My auditor looks at my hair and nails and the conversation is over before it begins. If the board bill is high, due to shows and lessons, write the check to Dr. Bloom. Then tell him that she is a psychologist who provides private therapy sessions. Remind him that your inlaws visited a few times and you needed extra sessions. Dr. Miller prescribes the meds that Dr. Bloom can't. She takes care of the hormones, flu shots, and tranqs as needed. Ricks is Cream Ridges version of Aldis. You go there for the sales to save money. One more thing. If you need to sell your horse, have Nancy just hack him around at a show. All the trainers are going to want to know who Bloom is riding now. Your horse will immediately be worth between five to ten thousand more, depending on what show you are at. Anybody need anymore helpful hints?

Marshall & Sterling Finals at Saugerties- September 11-14
WEDNESDAY: I wasn't there for the unpacking and set up so I can't say too much about how it went. We stayed in Gate A, Barn 2 which was one of the front permanent structures. We all agreed that they were convenient and probably worth the extra money. The stalls were huge and the horses were happy. It was very accessible to the large hunter ring where all the showing went on for the finals. It was easily walking distance. There was no room to set up a stall for the people but the aisles were so large it worked out. I looked around- no one really had a stall to hang around in. Don't know if it was the finals or the big barn. I drove up after work on Wed. night. Got sooooo lost looking for the mountain retreat Don had rented. To add insult to injury, Kris did not have her cell with her, mine was running out of power and there was no service on the BIG mountain on which I was lost. Really scary, steep rock to my right and cliff to my left and a treed road that winded steeply up. up, up.... I angrily gave up and told them I'd meet them at the Land & Sea restaurant. I was so disoriented after the BIG mountain that I finally pulled onto a little space between a fork in the road and hoped someone would find me on their way to dinner and they did. Dinner was nice and we all retreated to our respective house/hotel rooms. The house was rustic but appealing and very "up state New Yorkish" (to quote Karen), It was really comfortable and not having a TV was not a problem and we settled in to an inviting room with a big fire every night. Kris called Cherry and asked her to bring some DVD's for the rest of the weekend.
THURSDAY: The girls were up and riding by 6:15- needed to be out of the ring by 7:00 AM. Stalls were cleaned, horses bathe, grazed and fed.Could not jump, just walk around. Now this ring was like nothing you have ever seen before. At one point, I counted 32 jumps, hunter and jumper mixed together. Needless to say there was a lot to look at. Carol, Sue, Cherry and Karen made the trip up to watch. The weather was incredible. Our newly painted golf cart was a big hit. Breanna rode in the Bit of Straw and as usual was surrounded by family, aunts, grandparents, etc. She did not have quite enough pace to the first jump which, unfortunately affected the next few jumps. She did not make the cut off for the second round. All the adults were combined for the Adult Ami Division which had over 40 riders. Everyone rode well. Uddy was a bit playful, not a good time to return to her "baby stuff" but considering the ring it might have been expected. Splash was great but I think Amy had one bad jump. Kris was lovely and got a 3rd. Nancy bought the video. Abundance won that class and Private Ryan, who had won the whole thing the past 2 years, was second. All came back to the house and we ordered take out Chinese. It was yummy, relaxing and a bargain to boot! Did I mention Sue and Tom riding the ATV which was on the front lawn of the house? What fun!
FRIDAY: Day started the same- early ride. Happy Birthday Nancy! I think the rain came after Kris rode. I think she was 10th to go for the second trip of the Adults. Kris and Ellen were decked out in their shadbellies. Very cool! Kris had another beautiful round except Monty did a lead change and then chipped the jump in a 9-10 stride line. The rest was perfect. We bought the video so you can see her in her shadbelly. Amy scored a 78.9 and finished 8th in the $2,000 stakes class! YAY! Found a new Pizza place on 212 and had lunch before Amy and Kris rode in the Hudson Equitation Class. Nancy decided to forego the decorating of the house in favor of fixing the ring with new jumps and flowers, (When in Rome....) Played some Poker and Hearts in the tack stall to pass some time while it rained. There were about 60 horses in the first Eq class so they split the ring. Thirty went on each side. Again there was turmoil as horse after horse refused. Kris was so excited about how cool the jumps were. She thought it would be a blast and it was. She only wished she could have ridden Frankie on that course as well. Kris got a 6th even though she pulled a rail. Rest of the trip was lovely and not sure why they hit the rail. She was on a roll. Amy got 8th and they took a prize picture with the 2 of them for Nancy's birthday. It was getting dark by the time they finished. (no video due to darkness). We all went to the awards banquet where Ellen received a lovely ribbon for 10th place with a beautiful frame & certificate, for total points for the division. Tried to watch Sea Biscuit but conked out!
SATURDAY: Again all started the same. Green shirt made its debut with Crystal. Bainey, Cierra and their dogs joined us at the show. Kris was not as excited but a little nervous and it showed. Major errors, Monty stopped twice, not enough pace. Kris was so upset- all rider error! Kris scored a 15 (tied Philosophy who made almost the same errors) Back to the Pizza place for lunch. Sarah and some of her college friends came to join us. She looks great and very happy. She'll be home next weekend because she misses her Dog (sorry Nancy).The friends all toured the showgrounds, driving around on the BCF cart and had a good time. They thought the whole thing was amazing! I'm sure they're all talking about what a cool mom Sarah has! We all stayed around to watch Taylor ride Splash. She warmed him up for a long time almost 40 minutes after he had shown in two classes. Nancy and Crystal stepped in and took him back to the barn to relax him a bit before she did her class. The ring was split again and this time the kids were truly riding in the dark. Some opted to finish in the morning. Taylor placed 8th. Everyone was exhausted so we all went our own ways. Back to the house- leftover Chinese and subs. A house can save a lot of eating out costs, Watched Sea Biscuit, Ellen had never seen it!
SUNDAY: Slept in!! Taylor rode Splash in the morning. No need to rush to clean stalls. Leisurely packed and met for breakfast at the diner. Found a huge pile of some kind of poop outside the mountain house... we're thinking BEAR!!! Ellen, Don & Breanna were great housemates. Don was very handy making fires for us every night. At the show, some inquiries about Udy. All and all a great time, not too much drama, Can't wait to get back next season, neither can Tom whose constantly figuring how to set things up and make life easier for all of us. Took loads of pictures over the 4 days. Can't wait for you to see them!

SAUGERTIES 2008: THE RECAP
Let's see if I can get this straight for those of you who might have missed part or all of the BCF experience at HITS Saugerties.
THURSDAY: Kris presented all riders and grooms with a special edition T-shirt- "Hurry Up & Wait-Saugerties 2008".
Left the barn early Thursday morning. On the way to the show, received a frantic phone call that Alexa and Maddy were "devastated" because the hotel had no reservation for Sue. Can't you just picture those two? We had Elaine’s & Carol's rooms unused that night so all went well and the girls were happy. Got to the show grounds- unloaded and set up stalls with the horses waiting curiously and patiently on the trailer. Tom and Don were fantastic with helping set up and unload. Tom made several trips to the hardware store and he & Don got all the electrical issues resolved. Amy and Debbie (with the help of Tom & Don) set up our "Lounge" area. It looked great, if I do say so, better than most at the show. We hung several of Kris' prints and a few photos. We will definitely have more photos for the next show.
Grooms unwrapped and prepared the horses for the riders to set off and lesson/ride and familiarize themselves with the show grounds.
When the horses came back they were expertly bathed, wrapped and packed (hooves) by Crystal, Amy & Kris.
We decided to do Mexican for dinner that night. Michelle was planning on going back to school Fawny that evening. We lost track of time and with some rushing around to pick up Michelle, head for the showground, eat dinner etc. that plan fell through. We all returned to our rooms exhausted and prepared for Friday.
Nancy and Crystal did Night check- cleaned stalls, adjusted hay bales and watered- All was well.
FRIDAY: BCF crew arrived early around 5:45 Am- Horses were all lounged, bathed, groomed and walked or grazed (time permitting). They were all braided and looked lovely. But Friday started with more excitement from Sue as she announced that she left her bank envelope with all her money on the table at the Mexican restaurant. Now no room and no money!! Debbie offered to share her room. Don bought coffee and donuts for all and Debbie had some fruit and munchies as well.
Brienna was the first to ride in an equitation division. Emma was a little up but was lunged and lunged and lunged. Brienna won the first ribbon of the show a 7th place out of 23! Great job!!
Later that day she showed in the Pre Children's division. Emma was brought up to the ring but after her first trip, it was decided to change the bit. We're all sitting under the tent watching when we hear cantering behind us and "Loose horse"- Needless to say it was Emma running down the hill back to the stalls. Now I need to interject here that while the stalls are okay to reach on a leisurely walk, they are not easily accessible if you need to get something quickly- Golf carts are a must out there. So the 2 BCF golf carts (Don had rented one) took off after Emma- Of course some people watching thought it was silly to chase a horse in a golf cart- but trust me- there was no way to catch up to her. Some helpful exhibitors stopped her on the bridge. Kris asked Don if Emma had gone swimming? HA HA She disappeared in the "FOREST AREA" with Nancy and was lunged. When she reappeared again and came back to the ring she put in a lovely round. Brienna was Reserve champion out of a very large field.- Fantastic!!!
Kris and Michelle did 2 Equitation classes Adults 18-35. Kris got a 3rd & 4th and Michelle got a 7th & 8th. Christopher arrived just as Kris was entering the ring for her first trip. The starter at the Adult ring insisted on calling Nancy "Bloomberg". Throughout the weekend you would hear "Madden, Hernadez, Bloomberg" on deck. He was quite a character.
Amy did the 35-45 Adult Equitation, I think she got a 1st & 2nd!!!!!!! Yay for Blue ribbons!
Ellen did the 46-Infinity (the starter's words not mine) Adult class and also got some ribbons.
We finished early and the riders and spectators enjoyed a leisurely (until Marco/Polo began) swim in the pool before dinner as we waited for Rachael, Carol & Gary, and Elaine & Bill to arrive and join us for dinner. Sue was VERY lucky and got a room on Expedia AND her money back from the Mexican Restaurant ("See there are good people in the world"). The "New World" Restaurant, where Kris & Debbie went last week for the HITS Art Gala which showed 2 of Kris' paintings, had a lobster special which some of the BCF crew was hankering for. The food was unusual, fun and delicious. Somehow Sue was able to eat her lobster with Maddy and Alexa sleeping on her. The menu was loaded with vegetarian delights so Crystal was happy too.
Amy & Tom did Night check- cleaned stalls, adjusted hay bales and watered- All was well.
SATURDAY: BCF crew arrived early around 5:45 Am this time with the addition of Rachael- Again horses were all lunged, bathed, groomed and walked or grazed (time permitting). They were all braided and looked lovely. Don brought more coffee and donuts. Bainy & Cierra and Jimmy and Bruce, and Ellen’s husband arrived. Sue, Alexa and Maddy were bedecked in matching navy BCF garb and Cierra looked adorable in pink.
The weather forecast was not good for Saturday. Brienna had an 8:00 AM start for the Maiden Equitation division. She got a fourth place ribbon of a rather large group. Kris & Michelle also had an 8:00 AM start and got in their jumping rounds for the adult amateur hunter before it down poured. There were about 30 entries and the top horses were spectacular. By noon, when the flat class went it was pouring. There were about 25 horses in the ring all going at the same time. Kris made the cutoff for the M&S hunter classic and was set 9th out of 18 who made the cutoff.
After the flat class we took a lunch break and did some shopping and browsing. Kristen’s artwork was on display in the Starbucks/Ice Cream Parlor. The ring was dragged and by the time Amy and Ellen went the weather had cleared up but Tom received a call from Amy that she Splash had slipped and fell on the slick grass while walking down a steep hill to the ring. A call was made to Nancy who was promptly shuttled to the scene. The duo was cleaned up found to be unhurt. Amy and Ellen both placed in their hunter divisions- not sure of the ribbons. Ellen placed 5th in the first round of the M&S hunter classic. Kris and Ellen would then compete in the second round of the division on Sunday.
We split up for dinner on Saturday because there were so many people. Many of us were tired and wanted to do something quick. I heard a rumor that there was a party somewhere in the BCF hotel rooms after dinner???
Debbie & Kris did Night check- cleaned stalls, adjusted hay bales and watered- Carol & Christopher also came along to help. All was well.
SUNDAY: BCF crew again arrived early around 5:45 Am- the horses were again prepared for their day. They were all braided, even tails this time because it was Classic Day.
Kris started the day in the Ariat Medal division. She had a beautiful trip but pulled a rail on the second to last jump. Surprisingly she made the cut off for the test. Her test was lovely except that Monty had no idea what this “turning on the forehand” thing was (He did he was just tired and p/o'd at that time. She finished 4th.
Amy finished her Adult Equitation division with our one & only championship- How cool is that?
Kris, Ellen and Amy completed their hunter divisions. Amy and Ellen placed. Uddy was lovely and consistent. Ellen finished 4th in the M&S Classic and Kris finished 6th. Both earned some money.
Since Brienna was riding in the Bit of Straw as the last division of the day, we all headed to the food court for some lunch, some shopping and watching the Grand Prix. The vendor in the HITS store commented on our logos. Of course Debbie credited Kristen for the unique design. The vendor really liked them and said she has been seeing them all over. She asked how many people we brought to the show. Didn’t tell her only 5 horses but 28 people and even more shirts & hats walking around. A few HITS hats and jackets were purchased along with some photos but Rachel was the big shopping winner- purchasing a beautiful pair of custom boots. Throughout the afternoon Tom and others continued to pack the rig.
Brienna’s grandparents, great grandmother and aunt surprised her and made the trip to watch the Bit of Straw, which had a 5:00 PM start time. After the first 3 horses went, it was very evident that there were some very fancy 2’6” horses in the division. There were about 18 riders and half of them were bedecked in their shadbellys. Brienna was the “Cinderella” story. There were very fancy horses but she and Emma rode better. Brienna finished second and only 1 point from first- Great job Brie- You go girls!!!
Packed and on the road by 7:30 we headed home. Bruce drove the big rig home- I’m sure Nancy slept. Got to the barn about 11:00 PM- Unloaded horses- filled water buckets. Kris was right when she said Monty couldn’t wait to get in his stall. His halter was no sooner off and he was rolling in his fresh shavings.
All in all an enjoyable vacation and lovely show!

The food was unusual, fun and delicious. Somehow Sue was able to eat her lobster with Maddy and Alexa sleeping on her. The menu was loaded with vegetarian delights so Crystal was happy too.
Amy & Tom did Night check- cleaned stalls, adjusted hay bales and watered- All was well.
SATURDAY: BCF crew arrived early around 5:45 Am this time with the addition of Rachael- Again horses were all lunged, bathed, groomed and walked or grazed (time permitting). They were all braided and looked lovely. Don brought more coffee and donuts. Bainy & Cierra and Jimmy and Bruce, and Ellen’s husband arrived. Sue, Alexa and Maddy were bedecked in matching navy BCF garb and Cierra looked adorable in pink.
The weather forecast was not good for Saturday. Brienna had an 8:00 AM start for the Maiden Equitation division. She got a fourth place ribbon of a rather large group. Kris & Michelle also had an 8:00 AM start and got in their jumping rounds for the adult amateur hunter before it down poured. There were about 30 entries and the top horses were spectacular. By noon, when the flat class went it was pouring. There were about 25 horses in the ring all going at the same time. Kris made the cutoff for the M&S hunter classic and was set 9th out of 18 who made the cutoff.
After the flat class we took a lunch break and did some shopping and browsing. Kristen’s artwork was on display in the Starbucks/Ice Cream Parlor. The ring was dragged and by the time Amy and Ellen went the weather had cleared up but Tom received a call from Amy that she Splash had slipped and fell on the slick grass while walking down a steep hill to the ring. A call was made to Nancy who was promptly shuttled to the scene. The duo was cleaned up found to be unhurt. Amy and Ellen both placed in their hunter divisions- not sure of the ribbons. Ellen placed 5th in the first round of the M&S hunter classic. Kris and Ellen would then compete in the second round of the division on Sunday.
We split up for dinner on Saturday because there were so many people. Many of us were tired and wanted to do something quick. I heard a rumor that there was a party somewhere in the BCF hotel rooms after dinner???

SUNDAY: BCF crew again arrived early around 5:45 Am- the horses were again prepared for their day. They were all braided, even tails this time because it was Classic Day.
Kris started the day in the Ariat Medal division. She had a beautiful trip but pulled a rail on the second to last jump. Surprisingly she made the cut off for the test. Her test was lovely except that Monty had no idea what this “turning on the forehand” thing was (He did he was just tired and p/o'd at that time. She finished 4th.
Amy finished her Adult Equitation division with our one & only championship- How cool is that?
Kris, Ellen and Amy completed their hunter divisions. Amy and Ellen placed. Uddy was lovely and consistent. Ellen finished 4th in the M&S Classic and Kris finished 6th. Both earned some money.
Since Brienna was riding in the Bit of Straw as the last division of the day, we all headed to the food court for some lunch, some shopping and watching the Grand Prix. The vendor in the HITS store commented on our logos. Of course Debbie credited Kristen for the unique design. The vendor really liked them and said she has been seeing them all over. She asked how many people we brought to the show. Didn’t tell her only 5 horses but 28 people and even more shirts & hats walking around. A few HITS hats and jackets were purchased along with some photos but Rachel was the big shopping winner- purchasing a beautiful pair of custom boots. Throughout the afternoon Tom and others continued to pack the rig.
Brienna’s grandparents, great grandmother and aunt surprised her and made the trip to watch the Bit of Straw, which had a 5:00 PM start time. After the first 3 horses went, it was very evident that there were some very fancy 2’6” horses in the division. There were about 18 riders and half of them were bedecked in their shadbellys. Brienna was the “Cinderella” story. There were very fancy horses but she and Emma rode better. Brienna finished second and only 1 point from first- Great job Brie- You go girls!!!
Packed and on the road by 7:30 we headed home. Bruce drove the big rig home- I’m sure Nancy slept. Got to the barn about 11:00 PM- Unloaded horses- filled water buckets. Kris was right when she said Monty couldn’t wait to get in his stall. His halter was no sooner off and he was rolling in his fresh shavings.
All in all an enjoyable vacation and lovely show!

As ready as we'll ever be...
I think Fawny and I are all set - we better be b/c there is no way I'm getting anything else into that tack trunk or my Vera Bradley duffle bags!!!
I have to say this was a very difficult trip to pack for. Aside from an arsenal of horse supplies - I think we will be the most prepared farm on the show grounds thanks to Amy/Crystal and Nancy, I had to pack my my typical weekend wear (jeans/BCF polos) then3 days worth of show clothes -- thanks to Cherry's donation I'm all set - but too make things more difficult Jimmy and I are going to got for a romantic dinner Saturday night so I had to find a cute outfit that won't wrinkle (target cotton sun dress $12.99)
I was serious about the sheets and have a small duffel bag filled with just bedding.
And there is the saddle bag, boot bag, saddle stand, bike...I'm exhausted already!
It's going to be a great weekend. Thanks to everyone for all the help (show clothes, BCF polos, braiding, the mysterious items that keep showing up in my trunk - padlock, paper bags) - It's going to be a great weekend!

It finally worked...
I am now officially able to share my thoughts (no rolling your eyes)!
If anyone has time tomorrow afternoon I was going to try and rearrange the jumps for Saturday's lessons.
I was also thinking about going buy some new flowers to spruce things up. After watching enough youtube to go blind I decided we need more red flowers. Every Saugerties course I watched had red flowers.
Deb - I have lots of 1/2 dead plants (mostly ferns) that we can bring to HITs for the tack room if you could get them back to life. It would save me from having to face my dad who bought them for me. Whoever said talking to plants worked LIED. I say at least once a day "f**ing plants you are driving me crazy" and no reponse...

Getting ready for HITs (34 days to go)
I'm making a list of things to do to prepare for Saugerties. Please feel free to make suggestions/additons:
1 - Start sneaking money out of the checking account in small incriments so husband doesn't figure out how much it really costs. I went with "about $800"
2 - Get lots of drugs from Paula to knock out Fawny so that we (Amy) can clip his ears.
Get valium and scotch for Michele so she doesn't chicken out.
3 - Get Fawny use to having his mane braided so he doesn't roll in front of the white breaches bit--es and make it obvious we don't really belong there.
4 - Do the next Woodedge 2'6" class without schooling the course.
If we can't get around at Woodedge, fake serious illness.
5 - Jump 3'-3'3" every lesson until the show so the jumps don't intimidate (scare the cr*p) out of us.
6 - Have Kristen and/or Amy jump Fawny so that if the valium don't work they can do the first class.
7 - Ask (hope) Nancy if she has current coggins test or call Paula's office.Probably with the winning Giant ticket.
8 - Get Doctor to prescribe valiuum.
